PRO40 console

Midas · Early 1980s

Evidence status · documented

Identity and core specifications are documented; some historical fields remain unavailable.

The PRO40 (PR40) succeeded Midas's 1970s PR Series as its flagship, built from plug-in input, output and auxiliary modules so much larger custom consoles could be assembled. After Midas was wound up in December 1987, Klark Teknik completed the last units, including a 24-aux monitor console for Concert Sound.

Professional reactions

Later field experience · 2009

Boothroyd chose a restored PRO40 for AC/DC because an analogue desk suited the band's sound. He valued the desk's musical fit, rather than choosing technology simply because it was newer.

Later recollection · 2009

“Concert Sound and Midas would have worked closely on what was needed when it was made, listening to feedback and ideas.”
