Macro-Tech amplifier

Crown · Late 1980s

Evidence status · documented

Identity and core specifications are documented; some historical fields remain unavailable.

Crown's Macro-Tech amplifiers used Crown's patented Grounded Bridge output topology for large voltage swings without stacking output transistors in series. Later models such as the MA-5002VZ added a variable-impedance (VZ) power supply. Crown marked the line's run with 2008 anniversary editions.

Why it mattered

  1. 01

Grounded Bridge made amplifiers tolerant of the difficult loads found on tour.

  2. 02

It became a reference touring amplifier platform from the late 1980s to the 2000s, following the [[crown-dc300|DC300]].
